Stay Steady

What is the Stay Steady programme?

Stay Steady is a six month falls prevention exercise programme delivered by Life Leisure in partnership with Public Health Stockport. The programme supports participants to remain steady on their feet through simple but effective exercises.

All classes are delivered by qualified Postural Stability Instructors who provide a safe and enjoyable environment to encourage participants to gradually improve their strength, balance, coordination and mobility. Classes are free for the duration of the programme with the all-important tea, coffee and chat after each class!

See our timetable below for our full list of sessions.

Want to join in?

To access the Stay Steady exercise classes, participants must have one of the following:

  • A fear of falling
  • A history of falling
  • Feel unsteady on their feet due to limited strength and/or balance

To access the programme, please contact a member of the team today via email.

What’s next?

New individuals will meet one of our Stay Steady Instructors who will discuss the following on a 1-1 basis:

  • Medical History
  • Personal Falls History
  • Undertake some simple functional exercises to assess whether the Stay Steady classes are suitable for their needs

Once an initial assessment has been completed and the individual has been cleared to participate, they can access any of the Stay Steady classes. After six weeks, they may also be given a home exercise plan, so they can also practice the exercises at home in their own time.

We encourage people to take part in the classes as much as possible and therefore there may be situations where a person may not be deemed suitable for the programme. In this instance, we may offer alternative activities or put them in touch with our colleagues from the Steady in Stockport service.
