Your health is for life

Every year, National Fitness Day reminds us of the vital role that physical activity plays in our lives. This year’s theme, ‘Your Health is for Life’, is a powerful reminder that fitness isn’t just about hitting the gym or losing weight—it’s about prioritising our health at every stage of life, from the early years to our golden years. At Life Leisure, we’re dedicated to making fitness accessible, enjoyable, and beneficial for everyone, no matter their age or ability. Let’s take a closer look at how we can help support your journey to lifelong health.

Under fives

Baby Splash: Starting good habits early is key, and what better way to introduce your little one to the joy of movement than with our Baby Splash sessions. These fun, gentle sessions are perfect for bonding with your baby while helping them build water confidence and basic motor skills. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to socialise with other parents and babies!

Mini Movers:For toddlers and preschoolers, movement is everything! Our popular Mini Movers classes, held at our Brinnington Park hub, are designed to channel their endless energy into activities that develop coordination, balance, and social skills. Through play, kids learn to love being active—a habit that will stay with them for life.

Stay and Play: These informal play sessions provide an opportunity for your little one to interact with others and enjoy play activities in a safe and friendly environment. There’re opportunities to build, read, explore, play musical instruments, race vehicles and so much more! They aren’t just a social opportunity for the little ones either, adults will be able to meet other local families and chat over a brew.

School aged children (5-12)

Kids classes:As children grow, it’s crucial to keep them engaged in regular physical activity, not only for their physical health but also for their mental and social development.  At Life Leisure, we know that every child is unique, with different interests and abilities, which is why we offer an extensive Kids timetable with something for every interest. From dance to martial arts, every child is bound to find an activity that makes them feel excited about exercise. Browse our Kids class timetable here: https://www.lifeleisure.net/kids-activities/

Swimming lessons: Learning to swim is not only essential for safety but lessons are also a fantastic full-body workout that’s fun for all ages. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise because it engages nearly every muscle in the body. The resistance of water makes movements more challenging than they would be on land, helping to build muscle strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness all at once. Public swimming: Fun in the pool isn’t just limited to swimming lessons. The whole family can join in! Whether it’s a weekend fun swim or a few laps after school, it’s a great way to keep children active, improve their swimming skills, and enjoy quality family time. Adults

Gym and group exercise classes: At Life Leisure, we understand that every adult’s health and wellbeing journey is unique. Some prefer solitary gym workouts, while others thrive off the atmosphere of a bustling group exercise class. With eight gyms and hundreds of classes every week, your local Life Leisure hub has the environment you need to get moving and enjoy exercise. It’s recommended [by the NHS] that adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week in order to stay fit and healthy. Looking after your body is so important for longevity and you’ll thank yourself in years to come.

Swimming for fitness: A dip in the pool is a brilliant way to relax and unwind after a busy day. It’s also a great form of exercise and is very accessible to different ability levels due to its low impact nature. Swimming can strengthen muscles, increase lung capacity and even improve sleep patterns.

Older adults

Low impact and social sessions: Staying active as we age is crucial for maintaining mobility, strength, and overall health. We offer a range of low-impact sessions specifically designed to be gentle on the joints while still offering an opportunity to exercise and move your body. Whether it’s through chair-based exercises, aqua aerobics, walking sports or specialised classes, we help older adults in Stockport stay as fit, healthy, and independent as possible. Your health is for life and there’s certainly no need to stop taking care of yourself as you age. At Life Leisure, we believe that health and wellbeing should be a lifelong journey, filled with fun, variety, and support at every step.

This National Fitness Day (18th September), we invite you to explore the many ways we can help you and your family stay active, healthy, and happy—for life! So, why not try something new, bring a friend, or simply make a commitment to your health today? Remember, your health is for life, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
