Stockport active scheme

The Stockport Active Scheme is Life Leisure’s inclusive access programme, helping to remove barriers so everyone can take part. Supporting people of all abilities and backgrounds, it provides easier access to our facilities and a welcoming environment to improve health, wellbeing and confidence.

Access for carers and support workers

We understand that some people may need extra support to take part in activities. That’s why we offer options to help carers and support workers access our facilities alongside you.

Eligible individuals and their carers may benefit from the Stockport Active Card, which provides discounted access to swimming and a range of activities across Life Leisure hubs.

If you require additional support, you can also apply for a Companion/Carer Card. This allows a carer or support worker to accompany you during your gym and swimming sessions at no extra cost (please note this does not include fitness classes).

How to apply

1. Check your eligibility for the Stockport Active Card
2. Complete the application and provide any required evidence
3. Fill in the Companion/Carer online form.
4. Receive your confirmation email with full membership details
5. Visit reception to book the activities with our friendly team

Why apply for a Companion/Carer card?

Some people may need one-to-one support to feel comfortable, confident, or safe when taking part in activities. A Companion/Carer Card makes it easier for carers or support workers to be with you, helping you get the most out of your visit and take part in activities you might not otherwise be able to access alone.

Water Wellbeing Accreditation

We’re proud to share that all of our pools are now Water Wellbeing accredited!

The Water Wellbeing scheme, created by Swim England, supports public pool operators in delivering more personalised and inclusive experiences in the water, particularly for people with long-term health conditions.

This accreditation recognises that our facilities meet high standards of accessibility and aquatic quality, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

The team were welcoming and engaging. The facilities were lovely, so many nice things to choose from. There was plenty to do. The room was big, clear and clean and it was a great warm inviting area. Staff were kind and calm and nothing was too much trouble. As a parent of two autistic children it was a breath of fresh air as there’s so very little available for children with additional needs so we are very grateful for your efforts and ideas and desire to help and enrich the lives of these complex children. I think the activities being completely child led works very well, and the huge choice of activities to do is fab. Great for a childlike my son, who isn’t overly sporty or active, but loves his puzzles! Everyone is so lovely and friendly, and are absolutely fantastic with the children. My son feels less anxious in 1-1, or very small group settings, so these sessions have been great for him. Every session my son has been really chatty. He is usually extremely introverted in new settings with new people, but he came out of his shell pretty much straight away with you all, which just shows how welcomed, comfortable and safe you made him feel. – Parent of a child at the SEND Stay and Play sessions.

It was clear that the inclusive messages had really reached the entire team… It was so different to the ordinary gym experience where no one knows you from Adam or checks to see if you’re okay.
