National Fitness Day: Your Path to a Healthier You

National Fitness Day (NFD) was created as an opportunity to highlight the essential role that sport and physical activity plays across the UK.

This special day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Whether you’re already a fitness enthusiast or just starting out, National Fitness Day is an excellent opportunity to focus on your health and wellbeing journey and inspire others to do the same.

This year, NFD is taking place on Wednesday 20th September and the theme for 2023 is #YourHealthIsForLife. In this blog post, we’ll explore ways to make the most of this day and how it can help kickstart or enhance your wellbeing routine.

Ways to celebrate National Fitness Day

  1. Get active

Dedicate some time on this day to engage in physical activity. Whether it’s going for a jog, practicing yoga, dancing, or playing a sport you love – find an activity that you enjoy and get moving! Remember, it’s not about how intense your workout is; it’s about being active and having fun.

  1. Try something new

National Fitness Day is an excellent opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try a new activity. Why not take part in a group exercise class you’ve never done before? You could use this opportunity to test out our R1G classes at our Cheadle, Hazel Grove, Houldsworth Village or Romiley hubs if you haven’t already! Exploring new activities can keep your fitness routine exciting and challenging.

  1. Share your journey

Use social media to share your journey and inspire others. Share your workout routines, meal ideas, and progress photos to motivate your friends and followers to prioritise their health as well. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #NationalFitnessDay to join the conversation.

  1. Organise a group activity

Encourage your friends, family, or coworkers to join you in a group activity. This could be a friendly game of football in the park, a group hike, or a team-building exercise class. Exercising together can be a great way to bond while working on your health and wellbeing goals.

Pop into one of our hubs on 20th September and join in our challenge! Help us travel as many miles as possible in whichever way you choose – just remember to log your distance with a member of the team to make it count.

  1. Educate yourself

Take some time to learn about the latest fitness trends, nutrition, and wellness practices. Attend a fitness seminar or read up on the benefits of different forms of exercise. The more you know, the better equipped you’ll be to make informed decisions about your health.

Register for our free webinar, hosted by Dr Tim Anstiss, to explore the relationship between physical activity, mental health and wellbeing, and how to optimise your programme to get the biggest psychological health and wellbeing benefits.

  1. Support a cause

Many organisations use National Fitness Day to raise funds for health-related charities. Consider participating in a charity run, walk, or bike ride to support a cause you’re passionate about. Not only will you be doing something good for your health, but you’ll also be helping others in need.

Our H1VE studio is hosting a charity fundraising event for Mind on Saturday 23rd September. If you’d like to donate or join in, please click here for more information.

National Fitness Day is a reminder that our health is our greatest asset, and taking care of it should be a priority. Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or are already a seasoned athlete, this day is for everyone. Use it as an opportunity to get active, try new things, and inspire those around you to join the movement towards a healthier and happier life.

Remember that fitness is not a one-day event; it’s a lifelong commitment. Use National Fitness Day as a springboard to kickstart or enhance your health and wellbeing, and continue making health-conscious choices every day. Your body and mind will thank you for it!
