National Fitness Day is a day to celebrate the importance physical activity plays in assisting us to all lead a healthier lifestyle and is an excellent opportunity to bring people together and engage with our members! Running
Running is known to improve your mental health and well-being as well as your physical health and it can improve the health of the heart and lungs and reduces the risk of chronic illnesses. Were you aware that going on a run involves little equipment and all you would need is a sports kit and a pair of trainers to get you started?! If you’re new to running or don’t know where to start, why don’t you start by using Coach to 5K?! Which is a running schedule for beginners which involves 3 runs a week, with rest days in between, and a schedule for 9 weeks. This would play a huge part in building up your confidence by setting yourself a target and achieving a goal. Football
Did you know there are many benefits of playing Football as it includes a wide range of skills, stamina, and endurance?! Physically, Football increases your overall strength, improving your cardiovascular system and your overall stamina and agility. If you’re new to Football or wanting to get back into it again after a while, you should join a grass roots local club or play in a 5 a side league. Swimming
Swimming has several benefits including increasing your heart rate, toning your muscles, building strength and endurance and not to mention it’s excellent for your overall mental health and well-being! What we’re doing
This year National Fitness Day is running on Wednesday the 21st of September. During busy times on the gym floor Life Leisure are holding a flash mob, where the gym instructor will play the song ‘Flower’ by Moby, for members to do the ‘Bring Sally Up’ squat challenge. Using the theme ‘Fitness Unites Us’, we’d love all our gym members to stop what they’re doing, and all join in on the challenge together!
Here at Life Leisure, National Fitness Day is a day when people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities come together to celebrate the fun of fitness and recognise the benefits it brings to our lives. It aims to inspire the nation to be active and to celebrate the positive impact being active has on our physical, mental, and social well-being.
