How to find an activity you’ll love

Love Being Active week at Life Leisure (17th – 22nd March 2025) is all about celebrating movement and finding joy in staying active. Whether you’re a regular gym-goer or just dipping your toe in, the key to making physical activity a long-term habit is discovering an activity you genuinely enjoy.

At Life Leisure, we believe that exercise should be fun, social, and something you look forward to—not a chore! With so many ways to move, from group exercise classes to team sports, there’s something for everyone. If you’re not sure where to start, here’s how to find an activity you’ll love and join in the celebration during Love Being Active week!

1. Think about what you enjoy

Do you love social settings, or do you prefer to go it alone? Are you competitive, or do you favour a relaxed pace? Ask yourself:

  • Do I enjoy music and high energy? – Try group classes like Zumba or Spin!
  • Do I like structured workouts with coaching? – Group PT style classes such as H1VE or HYROX could be for you.
  • Do I prefer low impact but effective exercise? – Swimming or walking groups are a great choice.
  • Do I enjoy team sports and socialising? – Try sports like badminton, football, or Padel.

By focusing on what excites you, you’ll be more likely to enjoy it and therefore stick to it.

2. Start small and try different activities

If you’re unsure what suits you, Love Being Active week is the perfect time to experiment with different activities. Life Leisure offers a variety of activity options every week:

Gym workouts: Perfect for strength training, cardio, and solo workouts at your own pace.

Group exercise classes: From high-energy Spin and Zumba to strength-focused Body Pump and Glutes and Core, there’s something for everyone.

Swimming: A fantastic full-body workout that’s easy on the joints. Great for all fitness levels!

Raquet sports: Fun, social, and a great way to improve coordination while being active.

Football: If you love team sports, our indoor and outdoor football sessions are a great way to stay active while having fun.

Stay and Play: Ideal for parents with young children, encouraging movement and fun together while socialising with other families.

Walking: Low-impact, social, and a great way to get fresh air while staying active.

3. Find a routine that fits your lifestyle

It’s important to choose an activity that fits into your daily schedule. If you’re short on time, a quick gym session or a 30-minute class might be ideal. If you prefer a more relaxed approach, walking groups or swimming can be easy to fit into your week.

Tip: Life Leisure offers morning, lunchtime, and evening classes across eight locations, so you can find something that works around your commitments.

4. Make it social

Exercising with friends, joining a sports team, or even just chatting on a walk can keep you motivated and make the experience much more enjoyable. Why not bring a friend along to a Love Being Active week session and try something new together?

5. Just try it

The best way to find an activity you love is to step outside your comfort zone and just give it a go! Many members who never thought they’d enjoy lifting weights now love stepping into the gym. Others who never tried racket sports now come to play Padel every week. Keep an open mind—you might just discover a new passion!

Finding an activity you love isn’t just about having fun—it’s about creating a habit that will keep you moving for the long-term. When you enjoy what you’re doing, exercise stops feeling like an obligation and becomes something you look forward to.

Regular physical activity doesn’t just improve fitness—it has powerful benefits for both body and mind, including:

  • More energy – Staying active boosts circulation and releases endorphins, helping you feel more awake and focused throughout the day.
  • Better strength and mobility – Whether it’s lifting weights, swimming, or playing football, movement keeps your muscles strong and your body resilient.
  • Improved mental health – Exercise reduces stress, improves mood, and can even help combat anxiety and depression.
  • Better sleep – Moving your body regularly can help you fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper, more restful sleep.
  • Stronger social connections – Whether it’s in the gym, a group class, or a team sport, staying active helps you meet new people and build a sense of community.

By choosing an activity you love, you’re not just exercising—you’re creating a sustainable, healthy lifestyle that will keep you feeling your best for years to come.

We’d love to see you in our hubs during Love Being Active week. Come and celebrate and try something new with us!
