People living with Parkinson’s across Stockport and the wider Northwest are invited to try a new, non-contact boxing class, designed to be accessible, fun, and supportive.
Delivered by Life Leisure, with funding support from Parkinson’s UK, the new sessions are held every Monday from 3.15pm to 4.00pm at Life Leisure Grand Central, Grand Central Square, Wellington Road South, Stockport, SK1 3TA.
These boxing classes are open to everyone, with no previous experience in boxing or physical activity needed. Our trained instructors are on hand to guide participants through each activity, and we welcome those who want to come along, watch a session, and get a feel for it before deciding to take part.
Boxing is an excellent way for those living with Parkinson’s to stay active, and it offers several potential benefits, including:
- Improved balance and coordination
- Reduced risk of freezing and falls
- Better cardiovascular health
- Increased energy levels and improved sleep
- Enhanced strength
- Reduced anxiety
The sessions are designed to be enjoyable and friendly, with carers and family members welcome to join or attend alongside participants. Life Leisure Grand Central offers accessible facilities, including options for seated workouts. We recommend wearing comfortable activewear and supportive footwear and bringing along a bottle of water.
Lisa Arrandale, Active Communities Officer at Life Leisure, said: “The sessions have been off to a great start, and we’ve received some wonderful feedback from those attending. Our aim is to help everyone live an active and fulfilling lifestyle, and we’d love to see more people living with Parkinson’s take part in these classes.
“No previous experience is required. Participants can feel free to come along, have a look at a session, ask questions, or just enjoy a chat and a cuppa with us!”
