Life Leisure launches “Peak Happiness” campaign to celebrate National Walking Month in Stockport

Life Leisure is excited to announce the launch of its “Peak Happiness” campaign, encouraging Stockport residents to discover the joy and improved wellbeing that walking can bring. Running throughout May in celebration of National Walking Month, the campaign invites everyone to explore Stockport’s scenic routes and local walking provisions.

“Peak Happiness” promotes walking as an accessible, free, and effective way to boost both physical and mental health. The campaign messaging, including phrases such as “Take the scenic route to feeling great” and “Happiness in every step,” highlights the simple yet powerful benefits of getting moving.

Walking is a widely accessible activity, easily catering to a range of people, unlike other niche forms of exercise that require a certain fitness level or skill. The campaign is designed to engage a wide range of participants, such as:

  • Families looking for fun outdoor activities
  • Adults seeking gentle exercise
  • Isolated individuals in need of social connection
  • Younger hiking enthusiasts ready to explore new routes

Through a mix of digital and offline marketing, along with plenty of free, guided walks over the month, Stockport residents will be encouraged to discover local walking routes, connect with their community, and take steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

“Walking is one of the easiest ways to improve your mood and overall wellbeing,” said Lisa Arrandale, Walk Leader and Active Communities Officer at Life Leisure. “We want to remind people that happiness is achievable, one step at a time. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll or an adventurous hike, walking can help you feel happier and healthier.”

As part of the campaign, Life Leisure is proud to be supporting the Mind ‘Mind Over Miles’ challenge, aiming to raise £1,000 for mental health support. Members and the wider community are encouraged to move 50 miles throughout May in any way they choose, whether that’s walking, running, swimming or cycling. The initiative reinforces the powerful link between movement and mental wellbeing, while bringing people together for a shared cause that makes a real difference. Join in, share your activity with us and donate to the cause here: https://bit.ly/49iFbJw

The campaign revisits Life Leisure’s popular ‘Walk Your Way to a Better Day’ initiative from May 2025, building on the overwhelmingly positive response while incorporating new ideas to make the experience even more enjoyable and inclusive for Stockport residents. Firm favourites from last year were the walking t-shirts and printed walking guides. Both of these will be returning this year with a creative refresh.

Members of the public are encouraged to join Life Leisure’s walking activities, explore local trails, and embrace the simple joy of movement throughout May. For more information on routes, events, and ways to get involved, visit www.lifeleisure.net/walking/
