At Life Leisure, we believe movement is better when it’s shared. That’s why our latest timetable launch includes a brand-new range of family and junior sessions, designed to make movement more accessible, more fun, and more meaningful for all ages.
Whether you’re looking to help your child build confidence, spend quality time together as a family, or introduce healthier habits early on, our sessions are built with everyone in mind.
Why family and junior fitness matters
Building healthy habits early in life can have a lasting impact. Regular physical activity in childhood is linked to improved confidence, better concentration, stronger social skills, and long-term wellbeing.
When families move together, something powerful happens:
- Exercise feels more enjoyable and less like a chore
- Children are more likely to stay active when parents join in
- It creates dedicated time to connect away from screens and busy schedules
- It builds positive routines that can last a lifetime
What’s new on the timetable?
Our refreshed timetable offers a variety of family and junior-friendly sessions, including Family Gym, Family Padel, Junior Dance, Junior Martial Arts and lots more.
We’re constantly evolving our timetable based on feedback, and the new additions this time around see the following new classes available to Stockport:
- R1G
Family R1G has previously ran at Life Leisure Hazel Grove, and after proving popular, it’s now been extended to Grand Central and Houldsworth Village hubs.
Junior R1G has also joined the timetable and can be booked at Life Leisure Romiley and Hazel Grove. Suitable for children aged 8-12 years.
R1G classes are held on the gym floor using a mixture of equipment for a full-body workout. Children and families are led through the session in a relaxed, supportive environment, gaining experience and confidence in the gym, while building knowledge on how to exercise safely.
Life Leisure Romiley hasn’t seen any Junior classes in a while, so we’re excited to be reintroducing them as our timetable grows.
- Junior Strength
Strength training is now a staple in many people’s routines and is widely recognised as a hugely beneficial way to exercise.
As children’s bodies are still growing and changing, there are restrictions in place around weightlifting to protect them, but after some research and training, we’re happy to be bringing a junior-friendly strength class to Stockport.
Children aged 8-12 can experiment with lifting light weights in a controlled, supportive environment. A great introduction to strength training that respects their current stage of development.
- HYROX Youngstars
As an official HYROX365 partner, we already run popular adult HYROX sessions at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village and Stockport Sports Village (in the H1VE studio). Now, it’s time for the younger generation to have a go. HYROX Youngstars classes allow children ages 8-12 to experience the thrill of HYROX at their own level. It’s all about fun, fitness, and fierce energy as they take on workouts tailored for young champions.
HYROX Youngstars is now available at our Houldsworth Village hub in the brilliant, purpose-built HYROX zone.
- Junior Padel
Family Padel has been flying at Houldsworth Village since we introduced it earlier this year, and now we’re giving young people the chance to play together without the grown-ups! Juniors can play together with no pressure and no strict rules. Just have fun, move and try a new sport.
- Summer Sports and Ball Sports
Two new sports sessions have also been added, for children who like getting active the old-fashioned way. What says ‘sports’ more than an open space and a ball game? Children can come along, meet new people, and try a range of different games either indoors or outdoors. This is their time to really stretch their legs and use up that excess energy. It’s also great for building confidence to join a sports team at school.
Safety first
Each session on the timetable is led by friendly, qualified instructors who understand how to make fitness fun, safe, and engaging for young people.
We know that trying something new can feel daunting, especially for children or families new to the gym or movement. That’s why all of our sessions focus on:
- Clear guidance and encouragement
- Age-appropriate activity levels
- A welcoming, pressure-free atmosphere
- Building confidence step by step
Our teams are here to support every participant, whether it’s their first time in a gym or they’re already active and looking to try something new.
Making movement part of everyday life
The biggest takeaway from these sessions is helping families find simple ways to be more active together in everyday life. Their purpose is to create a stepping stone to forming healthier habits that help guide children into becoming healthy, active adults.
But it’s also important that we make activity feel natural, fun, and something to look forward to each week. Being able to move your body is a blessing, not a curse.
Our new family and junior sessions are now available as part of the latest Life Leisure timetable refresh. We encourage members and non-members alike to come along, give them a try, and see what works best for your family.
